From the paddock to the plate.

We embrace the Māori concept of te Taiao — a deep relationship of respect and reciprocity with the natural world. Every Mīti Beef Bite starts with that respect.

A better snack starts with a better story.

Every year, New Zealand's dairy industry produces around 1.8 million surplus calves. Most are processed at just four days old. We thought they deserved better — and so did the farmers raising them.

Mīti works with NZ farmers to raise these calves on grass for 10–12 months, rewarding them for meeting high standards of animal welfare and environmental stewardship. The result is premium young beef with a lower environmental footprint, animals raised well on pasture, and the foundation of a snack we're proud to put our name on.

Better for the animals. Better for the farmers. Better for the environment. And it tastes incredible.

Young dairy calves on New Zealand pasture

Manaakitanga. Kaitiakitanga.

Manaakitanga — caring for people. Every Mīti pack supports New Zealand farmers by paying them more for raising calves to higher welfare and environmental standards. We believe the people who grow our food should be valued, not squeezed.

Kaitiakitanga — guardianship of the land. Young dairy beef raised on pasture for 10–12 months carries a lower environmental footprint than conventional systems. But it's not just about carbon. It's about animal welfare, land stewardship, and building a food system that respects the natural world.

These aren't marketing words. They're the principles behind every decision we make — from how the animals are raised, to who we work with, to what goes into the pack.

Dan Carson

"These calves aren't waste. They're an opportunity — for farmers, for better welfare, and for New Zealand."

Dan (Ngāi Tahu) started converting an old shed and raising four-day-old calves through to finishing beef back in 2012. What began as a farming experiment became a question he couldn't stop asking: why does New Zealand treat 1.8 million calves a year as a problem instead of a resource?

He founded Alps2Ocean Foods to answer that question. Working with farmers and scientists at AgResearch, he built the science, developed the product, and proved the model — showing that better animal welfare and lower environmental impact can go hand in hand with premium value. Mīti is the result, and it's just the beginning.
